Probably every woman would love to have stunning lashes. When we hear the phrase ‘beautiful eyelashes’ we usually think of their thickness and length because more emphasized lashes visually open up the eye, make the look more flattering and enhance the entire make-up. How to take proper care of them? First and foremost, you must get to know them better!
What do we already know about lashes? Unfortunately, studies show that the majority of us has a very little knowledge about them. We definitely explore the hair topic a lot more thanks to which we are able to match proper cosmetics and care to its needs. It is high time we change it and include lash care in our beauty routines.
Eyelashes – basic info
There are about 200 lashes on the upper eyelid and around 100 on the lower one. This number can decrease because the number of lashes depends on their condition. The length can vary. It is said that upper lashes length ranges from 8 to 12mm, while the lower ones are about 6-8cm long. Why do we even need lashes? These small hairs are responsible for protecting the eye and for most of us, emphasize the eye. It is worth making sure they grow strong, long and thick.
How to take care of lashes?
Eyelash treatment can be problematic especially because the lash lifespan is a lot shorter than hair. Our lashes are exchanged to new ones at least twice a year as their life cycle lasts 2-4 months and can be divided into 5 stages. The most important phase is anagen – growth and catagen – die back. Next comes the time to exchange them so the old lash is being pushed and forced to fall out from the follicle. A new one starts growing in the same place and the cycle repeats itself regularly.
However, we can extend the growth phase by using lash serums. This will also increase their length. A top-quality serum will not only increase the growth but also improve their condition and add vitality.
Lashes are similar in structure to the hair so their treatment should include, or even focus on, reinforcing the bulbs. This is the place where the life of a lash starts so proper nourishment and hydration are the key to success and result in strengthening the lash. To be more precise, the bulb is the only part of hair and lashes that is alive, the rest that grows above the eyelid (or the scalp in the case of hair) is lifeless. Therefore, using appropriate treatment by applying it directly to the lashline will bring the best results.
